Chrome Extension

The Ferndesk Chrome extension gives you instant access to your AI documentation assistant from anywhere in your browser. Chat with Fern, draft customer replies, create and update documentation, and search your help center without switching tabs. You can edit existing articles from the extension; publishing happens in the Ferndesk app.

What the extension does

  • Chat with Fern to ask questions about your documentation

  • Search your help center from any reply box and insert article links or short answers with the !! popover

  • Draft customer replies with the !! popover, grounded in your articles and the conversation on the page

  • Create and update articles using natural language

The extension works anywhere in Chrome, not just on your help center pages. Open the side panel from any website using the keyboard shortcut, context menu, or toolbar icon.

Get started

  1. Install the Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store and sign in to Ferndesk in the same browser.

  2. Open the side panel with Alt+F (⌥F on Mac) and chat with Fern, search articles, and review recent tasks.

  3. Type !! in any reply box to search and draft replies with the popover.

  4. Optionally, make drafted replies match your tone by adding response drafting instructions.

  5. Manage the Chrome extension: clear the chat, switch Fern off per site, disable, or uninstall.

Automatic page context

When you send a prompt, Ferndesk captures context from the current webpage you are viewing. This helps Fern understand what you are working on and provide more relevant assistance.

Compatibility

  • Browser: Google Chrome version 114 or later (desktop only)

  • Plans: Available on all Ferndesk plans

  • Roles: All authenticated users
