Search threads in the Fern workspace
Thread search helps you find past Fern threads—including audits, tasks, and code changes—without browsing the full list. Use it to quickly locate specific conversations or revisit work you've done before.
How to search threads
Open thread search from anywhere in your workspace:
Keyboard shortcut: Press ⌘/ (Mac) or Ctrl+/ (Windows/Linux)
Sidebar: Click the Search icon in the Fern workspace sidebar
The search dialog opens with a text input that says "Search conversations."
What you can search
Thread search looks across all Fern thread types:
Tasks (i.e Conversations) — Find tasks you've created or reviewed, including drafts and published work
Audits — Review audits you've run, including findings and recommendations
Code changes — Locate threads related to product changes from your connected codebase
Search matches thread content and metadata, not just titles. This includes task instructions, audit findings, conversation history, and related context.
When to use thread search
Thread search is useful when you need to:
Revisit an old task — Find a task you completed weeks or months ago without paging through the full thread list
Review audit history — Locate a specific audit to see what gaps it identified or what articles it produced
Find related work — Discover whether Fern has previously addressed a topic similar to a new task you're planning
For help center search—finding articles your readers will see—use your help center's search instead. Thread search only searches Fern threads, not published documentation.
