Check if it's the default section, the last remaining section, or still contains content. Move or remove content first, then try again.
How to create and manage sections
Sections are top-level navigation tabs in your help center. They let you separate major content areas, each appearing as a tab in your help center navigation.
You need edit permissions in your workspace to manage sections.
Creating sections
Go to Help Center in the sidebar.
In the content tree, click the ⋮ menu at the top level and select Create section.
Enter a Section name.
Optionally add an icon.
Click Create section.
You can also ask Fern to create a section in a task.
Deleting sections
When you delete a section, it removes that top-level tab from your help center navigation. Deletion can be blocked in three cases:
Default section: Your default section cannot be deleted. This section acts as the fallback for content that doesn't specify a section.
Last remaining section: The only remaining section cannot be deleted. Every help center must have at least one section.
Section with content: You cannot delete a section that still has content. Move or delete all collections, articles, and API references inside the section first.
If deletion is blocked, reorganize your content first: move collections and articles to another section, or delete them if they're no longer needed. Once the section is empty, you can delete it (unless it's the default or the last remaining section).
When deletion is allowed, you'll be asked to type the section's slug exactly to confirm the action.
Moving content between sections
You can move collections and articles between sections using drag-and-drop in the content tree. This changes which top-level tab they appear under.
