Youform keeps docs current as it ships

Youform needed an AI-native help center that could answer users and keep itself current as a small team shipped at 10x speed. Ferndesk became part of the release workflow.

We no longer need to worry about our help docs.

Meet Youform

Youform is building in the AI world, where a small team can ship at a pace that makes ordinary documentation workflows collapse. Abhishek, Youform’s co-founder, knew the company needed a better answer before he could even describe what that answer should be.

“Ferndesk is something I knew I needed but was not able to describe properly, and nothing in the market was providing that.”

The product is moving quickly. The help center still depends on someone remembering what changed and finding time to write it down. That is the problem Ferndesk’s self-updating help center is built to solve.

The old workflow depended on memory

Youform had been using Slite. When a feature shipped, the team updated help docs manually;or meant to update them later. The problem was not that anyone disagreed about the value of documentation. It was that every release created another task, and the task competed with shipping, support, and everything else a small team has to do.

“Managing help docs is exhausting, especially when you have a small team and are in the AI world where shipping speed is 10x your non-AI native help docs will always go stale.”

A manual workflow also made the help center do only half the job. Users needed answers, but searching a knowledge base is often not enough. The team wanted an AI assistant for questions and a system that would update the underlying docs as the product changed.

Fern fits into the release workflow

Youform’s workflow now starts with the feature shipment. After a feature is shipped, Ferndesk can read the new commits and generate the help documentation that follows from them. The team reviews the work rather than starting from a blank page or trying to remember every article that might be affected.

Ferndesk also connects to Youform’s support tool. Repeated questions and gaps in support conversations become suggestions for new help articles, so the team can reduce the support load instead of answering the same question forever.

“Our workflow includes shipping a feature, and then Ferndesk will automatically generate help docs from our new commits. Not only this, it also connects with our support tool and suggests new help articles to reduce our support load.”

Fern is not writing from a blank prompt. It has the product context from the changes Youform is already making, then gives the team a draft to review and publish. That is the AI documentation agent in the workflow.

The result: less mental load, current docs

Wilson also helped Youform migrate from Slite, which removed another common reason teams postpone a move: the migration project itself. Once the content was in Ferndesk, the team did not have to maintain a second reminder system for documentation.

“We used to update the help docs manually, and obviously, our docs were going stale because of the velocity of features we ship with. It is very difficult to remember to update the docs.”

The biggest gain is not just the hours spent editing. It is the recurring mental load of remembering to check the docs after every release and every feature date.

“I think we are saving a huge mental load from constantly remembering to update helpdocs as per our feature dates. Definitely, we are saving somewhere around 4 to 5 hours a week.”

Youform now has an AI help center that answers users, follows the product as it changes, and turns support questions into the next useful article.
