The Mintlify alternative that keeps your help center accurate on its own
Fern, our AI agent, reads the pull requests you merge, your support tickets and your live product, and drafts a fix whenever an article goes out of date. Support and product people edit in a visual editor, with no Git or MDX, and nothing publishes until they approve it.

Mintlify is a developer documentation platform. Ferndesk is a customer help center that keeps itself accurate.
If engineers write your docs and most of it is API reference, Mintlify fits. If customers are the readers and support or product people do the editing, Ferndesk fits, and Fern keeps every article accurate as you ship.
When to choose Ferndesk, and when to choose Mintlify
Choose Ferndesk if
- Most of your readers are customers using your product, not developers calling your API.
- Support, success, product people or the founder write the docs, and nobody wants a Git workflow.
- You ship every week and nobody owns keeping the articles current.
- You want support tickets and the live product, not only code, to drive doc updates, without an enterprise contract.
Choose Mintlify if
- Your docs are mainly an API reference and SDK guides for developers.
- Your engineers want docs as MDX files in Git, reviewed like code.
- You need several versions of the docs live at once.
- You have a large team of editors. Mintlify Pro includes unlimited seats.
- Its free plan covers what you need today.
Or run both
Plenty of teams keep Mintlify for the API reference their developers use and put the customer help center on Ferndesk, linked from the same site. If your API reference is small, Ferndesk can render it from your OpenAPI or GraphQL schema and you run one tool instead of two.
Mintlify fits until customers, not developers, are the main readers
Teams rarely leave Mintlify because the docs look bad. They leave when the docs have to serve customers and the people who support them.
Every page is a file in a Git repo
Mintlify’s web editor has a visual mode, but each page is still an MDX file and publishing writes commits and pull requests. That suits engineers. For a support lead fixing an article between tickets, it is a code workflow.
The price jumps from free to $450 a month
The free Starter plan has no AI at all. The assistant, the agent, automations and the help widget start on Pro, at $450 a month billed yearly or $540 month to month, and answers and updates draw down a monthly credit allowance.
Support tickets need an Enterprise contract
Mintlify can draft updates from resolved Intercom, Zendesk, Plain or Pylon conversations, but its integrations need the Enterprise plan. Nothing checks articles against the live product, and screenshots are retaken by hand.

Both draft updates from your code. Fern also works from your tickets and your product.
Code changes are one reason docs go wrong. Questions customers keep asking and screens that no longer match the article are the others. Fern works from all three on Pro, and nothing publishes until someone on your team approves it.
Every merged PR, checked for doc impact
Fern reads each pull request you merge, finds the help articles it made wrong, and drafts the edit with a link to the change it came from.
Support tickets turned into articles
She reads resolved conversations in Intercom, Zendesk, Help Scout, Crisp and other inboxes, spots the questions your docs do not answer, and drafts the missing article.
Every article checked against the product
Verification reads each article claim by claim and checks it against your codebase, your website and the live product. Anything that is no longer true becomes a drafted fix, and scheduled audits repeat the check.
Screenshots retaken from your real UI
When a screen changes, Fern recaptures the screenshot from your product, so articles stop showing last year’s design.
“I looked into Mintlify and other platforms but they were too technical to setup and maintain and again required hours upon hours of manual work.”

Paste your Mintlify URL and your docs come across in minutes
Ferndesk has a dedicated Mintlify importer. It reads your site’s navigation, so tabs, groups and page order arrive as they are, and your old URLs redirect to the new pages so links and search rankings survive the move. If something will not import cleanly, we do it with you.
What comes across
- Your navigation: tabs, groups, folders and page order
- Callouts, cards, steps, code groups, accordions and columns
- Images, code blocks, tables and embeds
- Your changelog, from its RSS feed
- Your URLs, with redirects from the old paths
Mintlify-only widgets such as tabs, tooltips and Mermaid diagrams come across as readable content rather than the same interactive element.

Yes, when your docs are mostly for customers rather than developers. Ferndesk gives you a help center, an in-app widget and AI answers that anyone on the team can edit, and Fern keeps the articles accurate as your product changes. If your docs are mainly an API reference that engineers maintain in Git, Mintlify is the better fit.
