Understanding Publish Credits

Publish credits are consumed when Fern (the AI agent) creates or updates an article on your behalf. Each AI-generated or AI-updated article uses one credit.

Key details:

  • Manual edits and drafts don't consume credits

  • Startup plan includes 10 credits/month (resets at billing cycle)

  • Team and Enterprise plans have unlimited credits

  • Extra credits cost $0.50 each and never expire

For more information, see What are publish credits in Ferndesk? and How to buy publish credits.

Overage Costs

If you're on the Startup plan and exceed your 10 monthly credits, you have two options:

  1. Purchase additional credits at $0.50 each — Buy between 2 and 2,000 credits in a single transaction via your billing page. These credits don't expire or reset.

  2. Upgrade to the Scale plan for $99/month — Get unlimited AI publishing with no per-article fees.

If you run out of credits on the Startup plan, Fern won't be able to publish new articles until you purchase more credits or upgrade your plan.
